The department shall contribute

•  to almost all the components of the medical curricula.
• To the teaching programme by means of bedside teaching in the wards, clinics, and acute admission unit of the Teaching Hospital Badulla, where there is a wide range of clinical problems.
• To an innovative teaching program for the final year students in the Professorial Unit.
•  to several research interests including non-communicable diseases, snake bites, acute kidney injury, leptospirosis, dengue, osteoarthritis, neuroimmunology, systemic lupus erythematosus, etc.
