- In 1995, the Department of Psychiatry, Faculty of Medicine, Colombo, became the first medical Faculty in Sri Lanka to introduce the evaluation of Psychiatry as a separate subject in the final MBBS.
- The UWU Department of Psychiatry will contribute to the teaching of Behavioural Sciences, Biomedical Ethics, and Child and Community Psychiatry etc.
- The Department shall provide specialized inpatient and outpatient psychiatric services to adults, adolescents and children and will facilitate clinical training in the University Psychiatry Unit, TH Badulla, and other sister Hospitals. The Department will also provide a specialized
services such as cognitive assessment service etc.
